1984: Visiting Professor at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland (Summer Semester) replacing Professor Christoph von Schönborn, OP.

1986: Founded The Patristic Symposium, Maynooth, an interdenominational study group, which meets two or three times each academic year to hear papers on the Fathers and which organises public conferences, on average, every three years.

1994 & 97: Visiting Professor at the Studium Generale of the Brothers of the Common Life, Maria-Bronnen, Waldshut, Germany, during vacations.

1997-2006: Editor-in-Chief, Irish Theological Quarterly

2003-2006: General Editor, ITQ Book Series

2003: Coordinator of the Religious Studies component of the Higher Diploma in Primary Education, Hibernia College, Dublin.

2004: Appointed Editor-in-Chief, The Word.

2006: Chairman of the Board of Directors, Donamon Printing Press.

2006: Elected member of the Board of Directors of FertilityCare™ Centers International

2007: Patron of the IONA Institute for Religion and Society, 23 Merion Square, Dublin 2.

2007    Elected a member of the Kuratorium of the Arnold-Janssen-Solidaritaetsstiftung Goch, Germany.

2008    Appointed to the Board of Trustees, Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict
XVI Foundation (based in Munich)

2008    Appointed to the International Editorial Board of the journal
Usus Antiquior (which is due to appear in January 2010).
